Joint Board of Professional Associations

The Joint Board of Professional Associations was created to give
representatives of Extension agents and specialists a voice with UT/TSU
Extension Administration. The board meets twice a year and provides a
forum for associations and their delegates to both give updates of their
accomplishments and struggles, and ask questions for clarification from
the administrative staff. It was also created as a unifying body of the
associations enabling them to share information and work together on
special projects including state galaxy meetings.

  • Attendees of the joint board typically include two representatives from each professional organization including, Tennessee Association of Agriculture Agents and Specialists, Tennessee Association of Extension 4-H Workers, Tennessee Extension Association of Family and Consumer Sciences, and Epsilon Sigma Phi.
  • Attendees of the joint board typically include Extension Deans, Associate Deans and those on the Dean’s leadership team from each University (UT and TSU)
  • The meeting is hosted by each association in a rotating order.
    • TAAA&S- Fall of each odd numbered year
    • TEAFCS- Spring of each even numbered year
    • TAE4-HW- Fall of each even numbered year
    • ESP- Spring of each odd numbered year
  • The hosting organization should contact all agents and specialists across the state soliciting questions for clarification at the Joint board meeting. The questions will be sent to each association president, forwarded to the host and presented anonymously to the deans for review before each meeting or collected anonymously via online survey methods. At the joint board meetings, the questions will be discussed, answered, and clarified. The UT Extension dean will then collect those answers for further review and clarification before sending to agents and specialists.
  • The hosting organization should also provide prior notice of the meeting’s agenda to attendees to allow for preparation of reports. A typical agenda includes reports from:
    • UT Extension FCS
    • TSU Extension FCS
    • UT Extension ANR
    • TSU Extension ANR
    • UT Extension 4-H
    • TSU Extension 4-H
    • UT Extension Evaluation and Staff Development
    • UT Extension Dean
    • TSU Extension Dean
    • Epsilon Sigma Phi
    • Tennessee Association of Agriculture Agents and Specialists
    • Tennessee Extension Association of Family and Consumer Sciences
    • Tennessee Association of Extension 4-H Workers
  • The hosting organization will select and confirm the location and the lunch menu (paid by UT Extension Dean) and serve as the Chairman and moderator over the meeting they host. It is helpful to poll attendees before setting a date to ensure good attendance.
